Best domain registrars

I did some research to find what domain registrars have the best reputation and offer the best prices for .com domain names. Here is the list of my findings:

• S tier

  • Porkbun

    • .com for $11.06/year.

    • 598 TLDs.

  • Spaceship

    • .com for $10.16/year.

    • 476 TLDs.

  • Dynadot

    • .com for $10.86/year.

    • 317 TLDs.

• A tier

  • Cloudflare

    • .com for $10.44/year.

    • 348 TLDs.

    • Downside: You cannot use another nameserver than Cloudflare, so that is a lock-in.

• F tier

  • Gandi

    • .com for $38.38/year.

    • Gandi was sold 2 years ago. After the sale, there was a price hike and the free email that was previously included with the domains was removed.

  • GoDaddy

    • .com for $21.21/year.

    • They have terrible reputation. They are known for taking domains that you have searched for and selling them back to to you for a higher price. E.g. if you search for MyWeirdWebsite.com on GoDaddy, see that it’s available, don’t buy the domain immediately, and search for the domain again some time later, then there is a risk that GoDaddy themselves have bought the domain and now offer it to you for a higher price.

I’m Swedish and for me there could be a reason to buy a domain from a Swedish registrar.

    • .se for 139 kr/year (excluding VAT).

    • .com for 119 kr/year (excluding VAT).

• C tier

  • Loopia

    • .se for 259 kr/year (excluding VAT).

    • .com for 279 kr/year (excluding VAT).

    • Would put them higher if it wasn’t for the price gouging.
